Angel Nominated for Prestigious Award
Each year, the high school theater awards are given to recognize outstanding achievement. Once again, Holy Angels has been recognized by the Papermill Playhouse Rising Star Awards. Congratulations to Alex Pagnozzi who has received a nomination for Outstanding Performance in a Featured Role for her portrayal of Rusty in this spring's production of Footloose. This is the first time a student has been singled out for her performance by Papermill. We'll all keep out fingers crossed for Alex as she heads to the Awards Ceremony!


HOBY Leadership Program
Congratulations are extended to Sophomores Elle Infante and Ashlin Ann Twardzik for being selected as the AHA HOBY Representatives for the 2011-12 School Year! Congratulations are also extended to Christina Sivulka for being selected as the 2011-12 AHA HOBY Alternate Representative.

Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. HOBY Leadership programs provide youth selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences.

AHA Gives Back to the Community
AHA’s annual cereal drive was held on October 17th and 18th this year.  According to Sister Peggy, 350 boxes of cereal were collected in total during this drive. The cereal went to the Office of Concern in Englewood, which is an organization that serves the underprivileged in Englewood and the surrounding communities.

Other outreach efforts during the past month included suporting "Trick or Treat for Unicef" during the week prior to Halloween.  At total of $586.13 was raised by the students and faculty to help children in need.  Additionally, On November 10th, Holy Angels hosted it's annual Turkey Drive to benefit the Food Bank of New Jersey and a total of 203 turkeys were collected to feed hungry families this holiday season.

AHA Dancers Rock the House
The Holy Angels Dance Team kicked off their competitive season this past weekend, excelling at two spirited competitions. Under the direction of Coach Jenny Sweet, the Angels dance team competes in Pom and Hip Hop categories.
The Angels participated in the Ramapo College Cheer & Dance Invitational on Saturday, January 7th, capturing First Place in both Varsity Pom and Varsity Hip Hop. The Angels dancers were also the proud recipient of the coveted Grand Championship Award, an honor bestowed on the one team which captures the highest overall score at the event. On Sunday, January 8th, the Angels dance team travelled to South Brunswick to compete in the Battle of the Northeast, placing first in Varsity Hip Hop and second in Varsity Pom, missing first place by less than 1 point.

Girl Scout Honors
Elizabeth Aaron, Junior, recently completed her Girl Scout Gold Award project. She helped host a Back to School Carnivale for families of the One to One Learning Program at the Marydell Faith and Life Center in Upper Nyack. This program teaches English skills to immigrant families. Elizabeth coordinated the physical activities for the day including soccer, badminton, volleyball and swimming. More than 60 kids participated and each one received a backpack loaded with school supplies to prepare them for the start of school. Elizabeth will formally receive her Gold Award at a ceremony in March as a part of the Heart of the Hudson Council Awards.

Aileen Murphy, Niamh Glynn and Kelly Mulligan, all Sophmores, were presented with their Girl Scout Silver Award medals at the Girl Scout Hearts of the Hudson Award Ceremony in Monroe-Woodbury recently. In completing this award the girls each contributed over 40 hours in leadership and community service. For the Leadership component, they organized and ran a teen movie evening and for the Project component they organized and ran a camping and recruitment fair.

All County Chorus Members
Hannah Jang (junior) and Alison Scorese (senior) participated in the  2012 Bergen County High School Chorus and Band Festival Concert, sponsored by Music Educators of Bergen County, Inc.  The girls auditioned for the Chorus in November and were chosen from among almost 500 students from Bergen County!  The girls were the only representatives from a Catholic School to participate in the Chorus.

Art Awards
Jenna Bacci, a Senior, was awarded a Silver Key Award in the Northern NJ Regional Scholastics Art and Writing Awards for her jewelry design.  She has been invited to a reception on February 15th at the Montclair Museum of Art to receive her award.

In addition to Jenna's exciting news, we have 3 students awarded with Honorable Mention Awards in the 2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Competition.

Tara Hayes, Junior, 3 Honorable Mentions for 3 abstract paintings: "Omnipotent," "Edge of Wonder," and "the Amnesia of Time"

Annual Art Show
The Holy Angels Annual Art Show will be up April 30th-May 11, 2012. An opening reception will be held on May 2nd at 3pm in the Student Commons.  Come and see the wonderful artwork of our students!

Spring Sports Awards & Dinner
Date: June 05, 2012 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM
The Parents’ Athletic Association is pleased to announce its Annual Spring Sports Dinner.  Please join us for this special evening as we honor the coaches and athletes who have worked so hard and have dedicated so much time and effort during the season.  At the dinner, the students will be presented with School Letters in recognition of their participation in the following sports:  Golf, Lacrosse, Softball, and Track.  We will also be honoring all of our senior athletes who have participated in the athletic program during the Fall, Winter or Spring season. RSVP's must be made by May 24.
